Anna Brotherson

Lecturer in New Testament Greek

Role at SMBC:

As part of the New Testament team, Anna teaches New Testament Greek.

Prior to SMBC:

Anna grew up in Tasmania with a love for foreign languages and cultures. With an eye to Bible translation, she studied Ancient Greek and linguistics at the ANU in Canberra. She then worked in the Department of Defence and Australian Federal Police before studying an MDiv at SMBC (2007-2009), alongside her husband Derek.

Derek and Anna lived as missionaries in SE Asia for nearly 10 years, where Anna focused on raising their three small children. While there, she also led Bible storytelling groups, both with Muslim women in the community and at a Christian shelter for unmarried pregnant women. In 2019, Anna became a certified birth doula, and loves helping women in their pregnancy and birth journeys.

Academic Interests:

Greek language and linguistics; cross-cultural and cross-linguistic communication; semantics; translation studies

Speaking Ministry:

Anna has spoken at various conferences and events including SMBC Women's Conference, Tasmanian Women's Bible Conference, Canberra Women's Christian Convention, and Katoomba Easter Convention.

Personal:

Anna is married to Derek and they have three school-aged children. Anna's other interests are cooking, reading, swimming, dancing, games, and sitting in a comfy chair in nature.
