Teaching and Pastoral
Laura Tharion
Fellowship Group Co-Leader
Laura Tharion grew up in Croydon. As a child she first went to Sunday school at Malvern Hill Uniting Church. Here the Christian life was witnessed as gentle, community rooted, and ritually immersive. She enjoyed lighting the advent candles, performing in the nativity play, and waving palm branches. During high school she attended St James Croydon, where she has warm memories of many youth camps spent together, eating, talking, laughing, serving, being. So began a lifetime of cherishing a deep sense of identity, purpose, and belonging in Christ.
Laura studied history, anthropology, and political economy at Sydney University, followed by theology at SMBC. She is married to Joe and the mother of three beautiful boys. Working part-time as the women’s minister at Macquarie Anglican Eastwood, she is passionate about discipleship, pastoral care, preaching, justice seeking, and nurturing flourishing community. In the margins of her weeks, Laura is also a writer, story coach, bibliophile, tree-lover, wilderness wanderer, cake appreciator, and consumer of too many cups of tea.
