In Jeremiah 2:1-13, God begins speaking through Jeremiah regarding the reason behind Israel’s experience of God’s judgment. They have abandoned the Lord as their loving husband and deliverer in favour of worthless idols. This kind of spiritual adultery comes with incalculable consequences and is likened to being duped into giving away a great treasure. Uprooting and avoiding it continues to be an imperative for Christians. In identifying idols today, we should consider anything that steals our time, money and trust away from the Lord.
