Associate Degree of Theology
Admission requirements: ATAR of 65+ or evidence of academic suitability
The SMBC Associate Degree of Theology (AsDegTh) is designed to take your studies further than a diploma and give time for deeper reflection. At AQF level 6, it’s ideal for those without an undergraduate degree. It can be studied full-time or part-time.
The Associate Degree will give you solid biblical foundations (Old Testament and New Testament) plus allow you to study units (subjects) of your choice in the areas of theology, church history, missions, preaching and pastoral care.
Studying the Associate Degree full-time will also provide you with the opportunity to concurrently do the SMBC Certificate in Bible and Mission (CBM). The CBM gives you access to all the benefits of SMBC’s expertise in spiritual formation, cross-cultural mission and pastoral ministry. It includes some extra classes, community activities, conferences and College Mission.
The Associate Degree also opens up pathways to further study, for example, the Bachelor of Ministry and Bachelor of Theology. It is the equivalent of the first year (full-time) of these longer degrees.
Early exit points are an undergraduate certificate (which requires 48 credit points) or diploma (which requires 96 credit points).
The Associate Degree will give you competency to serve in a local church or para-church ministry, or use your existing profession or trade on the mission field. Further study, at degree level, is usually required for full-time vocational ministry.
