Master of Divinity
Admission requirements: A bachelor degree or equivalent
The SMBC Master of Divinity (MDiv) is designed to prepare you for full-time vocational ministry. At AQF level 9, it’s ideal for those who already have a non-theological undergraduate degree. It can be studied full-time or part-time.
The Master of Divinity will give you comprehensive biblical foundations (Old Testament and New Testament) along with deeper study of theology, ethics, church history, missions, preaching and pastoral care. It also provides electives to allow you to choose areas to specialise in and opportunities to integrate your studies with the contemporary world. A requirement of this course is study of the biblical languages. Note: Whilst covering the same content as the Bachelor degrees, the MDiv academic assessments are at a higher level and offer the possibility of an accelerated pathway to higher degrees by research.
Studying the Master of Divinity full-time will also provide you the opportunity to concurrently do the SMBC Certificate in Bible and Mission (CBM). The CBM gives you access to all the benefits of SMBC’s expertise in spiritual formation, cross-cultural mission and pastoral ministry. It includes some extra classes, community activities, conferences and College Mission.
The Master of Divinity also opens up pathways to further study, for example the Master of Theology, Doctor of Philosophy. If for any reason your circumstances make it not possible to complete your masters studies, it is possible to graduate with a graduate certificate (which requires 48 credit points) or a graduate diploma (which requires 96 credit points).
The SMBC Master of Divinity will equip you to preach, teach and provide leadership in ministry and mission – in Australia and overseas. It is well recognised by most denominations and mission agencies.
