Master of Theological Studies
Admission requirements: A bachelor degree or equivalent
The Master of Theological Studies (MTS) is designed to provide you with opportunities to develop your ministry skills and facilitate further theological contemplation. Based on coursework, a feature of the MTS is the opportunity to do assessments that have direct relevance to your current ministry involvement. Students best suited to this award have completed prior study in Theology and/or Ministry.
Most MTS units are completed in intensive study mode. This includes a week of face-to-face lectures and discussions at SMBC, with reading beforehand and assignments completed afterwards at home. A majority of MTS students are active in ministry, whether in Australia or overseas, providing an ideal classroom environment to benefit from the experiences of others and build networks for ministry support.
The Master of Theological Studies also opens up pathways to further study, for example the Master of Theology, Doctor of Philosophy. If for any reason your circumstances make it not possible to complete your masters studies, it is possible to graduate with a graduate certificate (which requires 48 credit points) or a graduate diploma (which requires 96 credit points).
